The most decadent hamper arrived at my door a few days ago. While I was signing for it, the delivery lady mused that it must be a Valentines Day hamper. I looked at her surprised, Valentines Day was two weeks away, why would she guess Valentines Day and not my birthday, or some other celebration?
The answer is simple, some foods are romantic. My hamper was full of the most romantic Valentines Day foods imaginable. If your considering putting together a gorgeous hamper for your special someone I am going to give you a little help. To follow is a shopping list. These items will provide the perfect romantic picnic without any food preparation.
If you would like to go to a little extra trouble I have included a delicious Smoked Salmon Bruschetta recipe. The recipe is simple but the flavours are delicious. As with any simple dish the quality of the ingredients is important.
I have chosen the Superior Gold Smoked Salmon because the Tasmanian salmon is cured in Bundaberg sugar and Australian sea salt and twice smoked for a superior flavour profile.
Valentines Day Hamper Shopping List
- 250gm Superior Gold Smoked Salmon
- 200gm Goats Cheese in Ash
- Fresh Baguette
- Janz Vintage Cuvee
- Lindt Dark Chocolates
It’s not a big shopping list but each item says romance, seduction and indulgence.
My favourite way to spend Valentines is packing a hamper and a picnic blanket, finding a secluded spot on the beach and watching the sunset. We share a bottle of bubbly and listen to the waves roll into shore. Cuddled in a blanket, sipping a beautiful sparkling wine and sharing delicious food with my husband is love to me.
I would also like to share my recipe for Smoked Salmon Bruschetta. I love the smoked salmon and fresh herb flavours on the crisp baguette, it’s simple but very indulgent.
When your packing the hamper it’s best to keep the baguette and salmon in separate containers. When you have found your romantic picnic spot simply spoon the salmon on the baguette as you sip bubbly.
This recipe would also make a great inclusion at a cocktail party. The Smoked Salmon Bruschetta is the ideal finger food.
- 200gm Superior Gold Smoked Salmon
- 3 Tbs capers
- red onion finely diced
- 3 Tbs fresh chopped dill
- 2 Tbs fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp mirim
- 1 baguette sliced
- Heat the oven to 150 degrees.
- Placed the baguette slices on a tray and bake until golden brown.
- Remove and allow the bread to cool.
- Roughly chop the salmon.
- Combine all the remaining salsa ingredients in a bowl, (not the salmon).
- Keep the salmon, the onion & caper salsa, and the baguettes in 3 separate containers if not consuming straight away. (The lemon will start to cook the salmon)
- When your ready to serve stir the salmon through the salsa.
- Top the baguette with the salmon mixture. ENJOY!
When it comes to the end of the picnic I think finishing with strawberries and dark chocolate are the most romantic foods choices.
A simple idea is to choose Lindt Lindor Balls with the liquid centres. Yum! This is no fuss DECADENCE!
If you wanted to go to a little extra trouble, dipping strawberries in Lindt Dark Chocolate is a magic way to finish the evening.
