Australians Choose Favourite Takeaway Restaurants
When it comes to eating out, Australia has unbeatable range. But you don’t have to leave the home to experience fine restaurant dining: as people get busier and working hours get longer, more and more Aussies are turning to takeaway as a quality option.
Menulog has recognised some of Australia’s top takeaway restaurants with its 2014 Tasty Takeaway Awards, an annual competition in which customers vote for their favourite local eateries. The awards seek to recognise those neighbourhood restaurants that rarely experience the spotlight, but have nonetheless won over customers with superior food and service.
This year the National Winner – for the second time – was Manoosh Pizzeria in Sydney’s bustling Enmore, a Lebanese restaurant offering a unique take on takeaway staples like wraps and pizzas. The menu includes classics like Hawaiian and Margarita pizzas as well as Lebanese fare such as zaatar and kebbeh and a range of desserts.
Winners were also chosen from the states of Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
New South Wales – Maya Da Dhaba, Surry Hills
Known for its authentic Indian dishes and sumptuous banquets, Maya Da Dhaba beat out some very stiff competition to claim the crown of the best takeaway restaurant in New South Wales.
Victoria – Babu Bar Burger With Balls, Windsor
Proving that Aussies love their burgers juicy and generous, Babu Bar Burger With Balls serves portions so big that you’ll need to fast for a week to finish them.
Queensland – Lummy’s Chinese Restaurant, Mermaid Waters
The quintessential neighbourhood Chinese restaurant, Lummy’s offers all the takeaway favourites with quality and freshness.
Western Australia – Hot Rock Pizza, Bassendean
Hot Rock Pizza has garnered lots of praise for its vast range of traditional and inventive pizzas.
South Australia – Beyond India, Modbury North
Another Indian winner, Beyond India is a fan favourite thanks to its skilled cooking of takeaway classics like butter chicken, korma and daal.
The awards reflect the diversity of takeaway cuisines throughout Australia, with Indian, Chinese, Pizza and Burger restaurants among the major winners. Over 200 regional winners across a range of cuisines were also selected.
About The Awards
The Tasty Takeaway Awards asked customers to vote for their favourite takeaway restaurants. Customers could cast multiple votes, but could only vote for each restaurant one time. Hundreds of thousands of votes were collected in total.
Restaurant winners were awarded prizes such as money, delivery scooters and trophies.
