Oreo Cheesecake

Oreo White Chocolate Cheesecake

The other day I received a lovely surprise in the mail courtesy of Chocolate Suze and Liquid Ideas , it was a copy of "Simply Heaven".  This delicious cookbook features 75 sweet and savoury recipes using Philadelphia Cream Cheese.

Simply Heaven

I have always been a fan of Philly Cheese, especially the 5% fat variety.  I usually buy at least two tubs a week for cooking and sandwiches.  Having a flick through all of these yummy recipes I suspect I will be purchasing a lot more Philly, there are so many gorgeous recipes!

White Chocolate Cheesecake

When I opened the book the first recipe which jumped out at me was the Oreo and White Chocolate Cheesecake, yummy, I knew it would go straight on the top of my cooking list.  So here it is, thank you Chocolate Suze!

Recipe:

Base

80gm butter melted

250gm Oreo biscuits

Cheesecake

200gm white chocolate

250ml pouring cream (regular unthickened)

375gm Philadelphia Cream Cheese

1 t/s vanilla

1/2 cup caster sugar

1/4 cup boiling water

3 t/s gelatin

100gm Oreo biscuits

Method:

Place the biscuit base ingredients in a food processor and pulse until it reaches a fine breadcrumb stage.

Press crumbs into desired base and refrigerate.

Combine the water and gelatin and stir until fully dissolved.

Warm the cream and chocolate in the microwave and stir until smooth. Allow to cool until room temp.

Combine the cream cheese, vanilla and sugar in a food processor until the mix is smooth and the sugar is dissolved. Add the white chocolate mixture to the food processor and combine. Pour the gelatin into the food processor and continue to mix the cheesecake filling until smooth.

Break up the Oreo biscuits. Pour half the filling into the prepared biscuit base, top evenly with Oreo's. Add the remaining cheesecake filling and refrigerate until set. Makes approx 15 individual silicone cups.

Serve with whipped cream and additional Oreos if desired.

Enjoy!! It is heavenly!

Chai Masala Muffin

I wish everyone could have smelled the delicious aromas coming from kitchen today. I have just finished baking the Apple Chai Masala Muffins from Spicie Foodies new cookbook, “An Epiphany of the Sense”.

I received my copy of “An epiphany of the Senses” just prior to Christmas, but due to the silly season I didn’t have time to cook anything. Mr GG and I have been through the book a number of times and we have each picked out our favourites to try.

My favourites were the curries but with the hot weather I decided to try the muffin recipe first, and I am so pleased I did. Spicie Foodie knows her spices, the flavours are fantastic. I didn’t use the suggested glaze, instead I sliced extra apple and topped the muffins with the fruit but they still had a gorgeous, magic masala spice flavour, next time I will use the glaze as it did sound delicious.

Apple Chai Masala Muffins

I have a confession to make, I actually don’t like Chai tea, I find it too sweet, but Chai flavours in desserts and cakes I love!  (see White Chocolate Chai Creme Brulee)  My second confession, I doubled the batter mixture for this recipe, and ate almost as much raw batter as I cooked! I made the mistake of licking my fingers, and then I just couldn’t stop, it tasted so good!

I am not going to give the recipe for this delicious and healthy treat as this is more of a book review. I hope everyone will rush out and buy a copy of the book for this recipe alone!

Nancy is a magnificent photographer and her images are inspiring, I imagine I will probably make most of the dishes as they look absolutely mouth watering. Mr GG has already put in an order for the Butter Chicken, as this is his favourite dish.

The flavours in “An Epiphany of the Senses” suits our love of spicy, healthy food, the recipes included are easy tasty meals that you could serve the family any night of the week they are not overly complicated or difficult to make. Nancy has also been kind enough to consider our waistlines and adjusted recipe to maximize flavour without compromising health.

Spicie Foodie

I am very happy to have “An Epiphany of the Senses” in my cookbook collection. Good on you “Spicie Foodie”, your effort and hard work has paid off, this is a gorgeous cookbook.

Delicious Desserts Calendar 2011

It is hard to believe that we are nearly to the end of another year.  I have had so much fun sharing some delicious recipes with you. Through out the year there have been suggestions that I should correlate them into a book. I don’t think I am quite up to that task yet, but in the meantime I have produced a calendar for the upcoming year.

My calendar is called “Delicious Desserts,” it is full of the most delectable sweet treats from my website. I have produced a large format, glossy calendar, which includes simple instructions for creating the desserts pictured.

Each month has its own “pin up” dessert which is aimed to inspire foodies and non foodies alike to “take to the kitchen”.

So please consider having a peek at the publisher’s website whilst you’re making your Christmas shopping list. If you use the coupon code below you will get a 25% discount until the 31st December 2010.

I hope my dishes will become favourites in your home too.

Epiphany of the Senses

I am a cookbook junkie so I was very excited to discover three of my favourite food bloggers are having their cookbooks published!

The first to be published is Nancy from Spicie Foodie, have a look at her website and you will see the all the beautiful tasty food she produces.  The cookbook features all new recipes.

Her book is out now and is called “An Epiphany of the Senses.” It is full of exotic spices, delicious flavours and gorgeous images. I have ordered my copy of this gorgeous book already and I intend on featuring a recipe or two as a bit of a teaser.

The next two cookbooks that I am waiting to be released are due out mid next year. They have been written and photographed by Rasa Malaysia and Not Quite Nigella.

Not Quite Nigella

Lorraine from Not Quite Nigella creates dishes that are not only a taste sensation but visually amazing also. She has a talent for recreating dishes in a modern sophisticated manner and her food styling is absolute perfection.

Rasa Malaysia specializes in authentic Asian cuisine. I have made quite a few recipes from her site also, and they have all been delicious.  The most memorable dish for me was the Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork). The flavour of this dish stays with me even today, it was like nothing I have tasted previously.

All three of these lovely ladies are fantastic cooks, writers and photographers.  They have a talent for taking the most luscious looking food images. Their food styling and dramatic use of lighting creates images that make you want to eat and cook.

Lunch in Paris

Posted August 4, 2010

Unfortunately Coffs Harbour isn’t all blue skies, sun and surf, for the last week we have had consistent rain and howling wind. To add insult to injury I have had a miserable cold, and haven’t felt like doing anything.  So what have I done this last week… I have lulled about the house with the air conditioning on “high” reading “Lunch in Paris” a true story by Elizabeth Bard.

It is a cute little book which describes the life of the author, a Jewish American girl who meets a French man while working in Europe. She has no French and is seen as a typical boisterous American by the French.  Bit by bit she learns the language, customs, and culture, and starts fitting in to her new country.

The book is centered around French culture and food, and the author has included the recipes which are significant to each chapter.  So as you are reading the book your kitchen can smell like her little flat in Paris.

There is a bit of humour splattered about, particularly when her parents come to visit, or when she finds that her perfectly constructed French phrase actually means “tie me up and spank me,” instead of “could you please correct my mistakes.”

I enjoyed the book, it was light and easy to read. It gave me the feeling that I had managed to have a little French holiday.

I am now looking for a new book to read, so if you would like my copy of “Lunch in Paris” suggest a book you have enjoyed recently. Use the comments section below. Tell me why you liked the book, and briefly what is was about. I will choose a recipient from the responses. Don’t include your address, I will email you.

A lot of your blogs will be interactively design and style that visitor share data to read your blog.

Thank you so much, it is going to be a wonderful surprise for my Mum, I wish everyone a great day with your own special people, those who helped you become who you are today.

Mum definitely deserves the hamper, because she is an amazing woman that has brought up 3 kids through tough times. She is the best mum a son could ask for.

She's had it tough, working hard
deserving much more than just a card
So let's raise a glass and toast her true
The best person in the world - Mum, that's you!

Thanks for the info on Rasa Malaysia's book. I used to visit her website for recipes but some time ago, igot a new PC and forgot to bookmark it!

You're too modest Julie! You did a great job with the cake! :D

Yellow strawberries and cream is just perfect for mum as a reward for putting up with two kids who were a pain in the bum.

I would have loved to have seen those martini glasses! Hope Miss A had a lovely time celebrating turning 5 :D

It shouldn't. It should go to me as whilst trying to make sure my mum, step-mum, MIL, Step-MIL, 3 x Grandmas are spoilt on Mother's Day, I always seem to get forgotten!

My poor old mum is battling to care for my step dad who has advanced Parkinsons. My real dad who has had a stroke still expects her to be there for him, my bro is going bankrupt and she lives two states away from her only gransdon. Her life has little joy- JUst wish for one thing nice to happen to her. We all love our mums, good luck to you all!

Perfect place to relax and forget about all the troubles we have in the city and just unwind ~ can't wait to go to somewhere like this hehe
