Best Friend Delights

Tis the giving season, and I had a very interesting gift arrive in the mail. It wasn’t really a gift for me, but more for my little puppy Sofi! Sofi is one of the more spoiled members of our family as she gets everyone’s attention. She is a little Chihuahua/Foxy cross with a gorgeous gentle temperament.

Sofi was a birthday present for my daughter’s 4th birthday. Little A loved the movie “Beverley Hills Chihuahua” and she wanted her very own “Chloe” to carry around with her, hence this cute little white ball of fluff.

Like all Chihuahua’s, Sofi is very fussy when it comes to food. She will reject most things that other dogs would just lap up. She will basically only eat cooked chicken breast, or chicken and rice porridge.

"Little A" and I were recently at the Tastings of the Hastings Markets when we spotted the cutest little doggy treat stand. Best Friend Delights make the most drool-icious yet healthy doggy treats.

Just in time for Christmas, “Best Friend Delights” have released a Christmas, range so you can pamper your pooch on Christmas Day.

There are so many gorgeous treats available, and all are beautifully presented to make the easiest gift to give any puppy dog lover.

The can even supply a cute “Santa Paws Stocking” for your special pooch with its name embroidered for only $7.60!
All the treats are individually hand made using human grade food and are low in fat and contain no salt or sugar. They look so delicious that we nearly had a mishap when the teenage boy came home from school. I managed to stop him just before he sunk his teeth into one of the Delux Pupcake Gift boxed treats that I had left on the kitchen counter.

Little Sofi’s favourites were in the “Christmas Yum Balls” and the “Bitza Mix”, proving once again that although she is extremely fussy she does have good taste.

Since it is the season for sharing I decided to share our generous package of “Best Friend Delights” with some of Sofi’s friends.

Claudie was the first recipient and she didn’t even take the time to notice the detailed piping work on the treats. Elyan told me she put them on the bench and she sat under the bench begging for more so Elyan took these photo’s of Claudie.

Just let me lick it!
Just a taste!
Please!

Right. well, while you look at the screen, I'm just going to take it!

We don't have a picture of Riley, a Cavalier King Charles with his treats, as he "wolfed" them down without so much of a backward glance. But here are a few images of Riley.

Miss Rach tried to make the last by putting them out of his reach but she gave in to the whimpering.

Needless to say the treats were a hit in all the households.

If you want to spoil your furry best friend the treats are available online or at various outlets including "The Muttropolitan" in Woollahra and "Paws a While" at the QVB. Locally they are sold at most Vet Clinics in the Port Macquarie and Camden area. For a complete list of stockist go to the Best Friend Delights Website!

Cadbury Dairy Milk Mousse Chocolate Giveaway

I trust that my chocolate loving readers have noticed that Cadbury's have released a range of Mousse Dairy Milk chocolate in three delicious flavours. Wouldn't you agree that there is something so “right” about curling up on the lounge, in front of television in winter, with a family sized block of Cadbury's chocolate all to yourself?
Which is why I also love the new advertising campaign, “Chocolate so delicious it's best kept hidden." I had recently noticed that if my chocolate isn't hidden there is never any left for me!
In my house treats such as chocolate have a way of simply disappearing, never to be seen again? I've had to be very ingenious when it comes to hiding chocolate. Hubby is 6”6’ so a hiding spot high up is out of the question. The teenagers know exactly where things are kept in the pantry and everything is in open view. The little ones can now open the fridge, and the middle of the fridge is at eye level. It seemed I was doomed to never have more than a square of chocolate.

Then one day, whilst cleaning out the very bottom of the fridge, (where the vegetables go to die) I noticed an unopened block of chocolate had slipped into the nether regions of the crisper, (what an ironic name). I had stumbled upon the ultimate secret hiding spot! I now ensure that a bag of slimy lettuce stays in the bottom of the fridge to act as a deterrent, and as yet my stash of chocolate has never been discovered.
Now please don’t get me wrong, I am not a horrible mother and wife, I wouldn’t mind sharing my chocolate. The problem is, sharing is not on the minds of the rest of the family, their goal is to consume, and then search for more.
My task now is to find a way of getting some of that "me time" so that I can enjoy my Cadbury Mousse Chocolate.
So I think it is time to have a bit of fun! If my lovely Gourmet Giveaway readers would like to share their secret hiding space with me I have ten blocks of Cadbury Mousse Chocolate to give away courtesy of the team from Liquid Ideas and Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate.

To be eligible please ensure you have liked Gourmet Getaways and Cadburys on Facebook.
Please share your hiding spot in the comments below and on the Facebook page. I am looking for the most imaginative response. After all, if hubby reads my story I will be looking for another spot to stash the goods.
The competition closes on Friday 10th June so you have 1 week to enter. Pictures of your hiding spot can be sent to julie@gourmetgetaways.com.au
Lemon Myrtle Seafood Salad

In previous story I highlight an interesting food find at the Harbourside Farmers Market in Coffs Harbour. It was a brand of condiments, sauces, spices and seasonings which uses Australian Native Produce to create a unique taste of Australia. The range is called Bakarindi and all the ingredients are grown in the Coffs Harbour area. I purchased a few products on that day, one of which was the Lemon Myrtle Seasoning.
I love the smell of Lemon Myrtle, it has a strong lemony aroma with a hint of Eucalypt. I have these trees growing in my garden and I will often put a dried leaf (folded) in my tea for an extra flavour. I had never really considered the seasoning value of the leaves beyond my tea enhancement until I came across the Bakarindi range.

The ingredients in the Lemon Myrtle Seasoning are salt, lemon myrtle, chilli and garlic, all of which are dried and ground into a fine powder. The most obvious recipient of such a spice is seafood so I decided to try a Lemon Myrtle Seafood Salad. I am also told it is a great seasoning for chicken. I would be tempted to add a little cream to the pan after cooking the chicken to make a lemon myrtle sauce with the residual spice.
Keep and eye out for Lemon Myrtle Seasoning or lemon myrtle leaves for cooking it adds a very “Australia Summer” flavour to food.
Ingredients:
200gm Ling Fillets Cubed
200gm green prawn
1 T/s garlic infused Olive Oil
Cos Lettuce
1 bunch coriander chopped
1 cucumber (sliced finely)
½ small red onion (sliced finely)
½ avocado
½ lemon sliced
10gm Lemon Myrtle seasoning
Caesar Salad dressing to taste
Method:
Place seafood in a plastic bag with seasoning and toss to coat.
Lay salad greens on a platter.
Cook seafood in oil briefly until just cooked. Lay seafood over the greens. Add sliced avocado to the salad and garnish with lemon wedges. Serve with a Caesar salad dressing and a squeeze of lemon.
This was a delicious light meal full of flavour. We had some toasted ciabatta bread and melted gorgonzola with the salad for a lovely decadent meal which was on the table in no time at all.

Ferrero Rocher Boutique Website

You may have noticed that I love desserts and basically all things sweet, so I am sure you can imagine how happy I was when I was told that Ferrero Rocher would be advertising their website launch on my site.
It seems the lovely people behind these delicious chocolates have realized that we love to give and receive Ferrero chocolates as gifts. So they have created a website which showcases the most gorgeous Ferrero hampers and gift ideas, just in time for Christmas. The features favourites as well as limited release items, for that extra special someone.

In the spirit of giving $5 from each hamper will be donated to OzHarvest, a charity which rescues excess food which would otherwise be discarded, and distribute it to charities working with people in need in Australia.

So take a look at the Ferrero Boutique website, and maybe do some Christmas shopping online by clicking in the lovely chocolate image to the right.

When you are finished shopping, take a look at some of my Ferrero inspired desserts;
Tea People

After my lovely “High Tea” experience at Rendezvous, I went in search of some more interesting tea blends. I was pleased to find we have a local distributor of some beautiful, premium quality loose leaf teas and herbal infusions. These teas have been sourced from all over the world, and the range of blends is amazing. They also offer delightful tea accessories and tea gift packs.

I had been looking for something similar to the Madagascar Vanilla blend that was served at my high tea and I found it immediately in the Tea People’s Vanilla blend.
I smelled and sampled a few more different blends and I couldn't resist the Lady Grey with the beautiful violet petals. I also purchsed the Rainforest Magic blend, which I find has a very refreshing herbal feel with the hibiscus and orange, but it still has the kick you get from a black tea.

Mr GG likes his green tea but I am sorry to say he completely missed out this time. With all the gorgeous sounding blends I was completely overwhelmed, he will have to come with me to the growers market on Thursday to sample a few. I am also a little curious about the licorice and mint herbal tea blend… although knowing me, I will probably stick with my usual chamomile or berry blend.

All the blends are available to order online, and are being served locally at “The Happy Frog” so you can try before you buy. Have a look at the “Tea People” website for more information.
The Tea People are also available for High Tea functions phone 0417 211 366
