Those who know me would say I have a pretty good collection of cookbooks. I can’t help myself, I love discovering new recipes and flavour profiles. Occasionally I find a cookbook which is so much more than just a book containing delicious recipes.
The Happy Cookbook by Lola Berry is just such a book. It’s a holistic approach to health, nutrition and wellbeing. The book includes 130 whole food recipes which are all sugar-free and gluten-free. It also includes some dairy-free, vegan and paleo recipes, so it really is packed with something to suit every health minded cook.
I know all our readers will share my enthusiasm for The Happy Cookbook so I have organised a Gourmet Getaways giveaway. At the end of this story you will have a chance to win 1 of 2 copies of The Happy Cookbook.
The reason I find Lola Berry’s latest book more interesting than a simple cookbook is that it contains some lovely life philosophies, and gives readers a bit of a pep talk along the way. At the start of The Happy Cookbook Lola includes this opening paragraph.
“First of all, I’m rapt you’ve picked up this book. For me, good health isn’t about being on a crazy detox, it’s about honouring yourself and being the best that you can.”
There are so many more philosophies, ideas and life truths discussed in “The Happy Cookbook.” I am hoping to adopt a few and “grow” myself. Lola talks about becoming the best version of yourself in health and mental wellbeing. I think these idea’s are the key to living a happy balanced life. Nobody is perfect, but it’s a nice idea to work on yourself and improve over time.
I’m sure you have gathered by now that I pretty smitten.
Lola Berry is a qualified nutritionist, she has a Bachelor in Health Science. It is refreshing to have a beautifully produced book packed full of recipes you can trust from a suitably qualified professional. I have to admit I have found the trend of unqualified celebrities making nutritional claims very worrying.
The Happy Cookbook is Lola’s second book, the first was The 20/20 Diet which I also own and have cooked from. All the recipes I have tried have provided the perfect balance of flavours and nutritional value.
In any cookbook you expect luscious recipes and beautiful pictures and Lola certainly delivers with this component of the book. I can’t wait to make this delicious pancake recipe. Imagine enjoying a quiet weekend breakfast, devouring Green Pancakes with Goats Cheese and Rosemary. A yummy nutrient rich dish for breakfast. I took a quick look at the recipe and they could easily be made in the same time it takes to cook eggs on toast!
The Sweet Potato Gnocchi will be Mr GG job to prepare. He has been nagging me to make gnocchi, but I still have a gnocchi phobia. I would love to be eating this meal so I’m hoping if I show him the recipe he will make it for me! It would be so much easier I could just take a forkful off the page, I can almost taste those soft little pillows now!
I really enjoy eating natural, wholesome foods served as close to nature as possible. The Happy Cookbook delivers recipes for the type of food I love to eat. Flicking through the book I can’t help admiring Lola’s spark for adding flavour and finesse to each dish.
It’s been some time since I have had such a positive reaction to any cookbook, so I am absolutely thrilled to be able to give two lucky readers the opportunity to win a copy for themselves.
I would thoroughly recommend taking a look at The Happy Cookbook, by Lola Berry. It is available at Dymocks Bookshop RRP $26.24
