Welcome back to Top Drop. It has been a dry couple of months in this segment. I could blame the FebFest, but really I have just been exceptionally busy with other stories and I haven’t managed to check out many new wines.
You will be happy to know this situation will be rectified as I am now writing a monthly wine review for Focus Magazine. So you might say it is my job to try at least one new local wine per month. Without further ado I will introduce my wine choice;
Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
Winter is in the air, so I have chosen a wine well suited to accompany the rich hearty food we crave at this time of year.
An ideal balance of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape, with a rich crimson colour and the aroma of red currant and pepper spiced cherry. Initial lively fruit flavours rolling into a creamy mellow chocolate plum finish. The oak is subtle but gives the wine a silky full palate experience, and a lovely lingering finish.
Cool temperature wine from New England. Gorgeous to enjoy now, but consider putting a few bottles down as this wine will mature well.
